Once upon a time, I wrote that I wanted a collection of wine glasses engraved with literary quotes and song lyrics about wine. Here’s a list of those:
“You be my glass of wine; I’ll be your shot of whiskey” -Blake Shelton, “Honeybee”
I drank a bottle of wine for company…It was pleasant to be drinking slowly and to be tasting the wine and to be drinking alone. A bottle of wine was good company. Afterward I had coffee. -The Sun Also Rises, Ernest Hemingway
Go on and close the curtains
cause all we need is candlelight
you and me and a bottle of wine
Going to hold you tonight-“Save Tonight,” Eagle Eye Cherry
Nowhere to go & nowhere to be
Trinidad Charlie on a stool next to me
Readin’ his book ‘bout the have and have-nots
In between chapters we take another shot
And one by one we slide from reality
With nowhere to go & nowhere to be. -Kenny Chesney, “Nowhere to Go & Nowhere to Be”
When the dessert and wine were arranged, and Mrs. Dashwood and Elinor were left by themselves, they remained long together in a similarity of thoughtfulness and silence. -Sense & Sensibility, Jane Austen
The word was beautiful: wine. It made you think of dark purple because the grapes were dark purple that grew in Greece outside houses like white temples. -A Portrait of the of Artist as a Young Man, James Joyce
A little midnight chardonnay
Smooth the edges off the day -“Forever Seventeen,” Tim McGraw
If fall is the soul of the engine
And wine is the drink of the Gods
Forgiveness the road to redemption
Faith can still beat the odds -“Heart of the World,” Lady Antebellum
You danced just like a child
The wine spilled on your dress
And all you did was smile
Yeah, it was perfect -“We Owned the Night,” Lady Antebellum
Oh I know that the music’s fine
Like sparklin’ wine, go and have your fun -“Save the Last Dance for Me,” Michael Buble.
‘Course whiskey makes me smarter and I’m happy as can be
But please excuse me, darlin’
It’s not you, it’s me -“Knuckle Down,” Ani DiFranco
