In anticipation of a new semester in my residence hall, I started cutting beachy photos from my Coastal Living magazines to use for my hall theme (to give us sunny images to get us through mid-Ohio winter). I was inspired by this to go through every magazine stacked on the bottom of my bookshelf and tear out articles I might read, recipes I might cook, and pictures that I enjoyed—and relegate the remaining magazine to the big blue recycle bin. Here you’ll see three years worth of Oprah, a year of Psychology Today, and the my current favortite, Coastal Living. The resulting stack of things I kept was possibly as thick as one magazine, and got reduced further when I trimmed them. These I pasted into old half-used notebooks, which are also stacked on my bottom of my bookshelf, so as not to go to waste. Getting all these magazines out of here is going to make room for my ever-expanding collection of books, and it finally gives me something to do with these notebooks (which I save, but do not actually use for I can’t control myself when it comes to buying school supplies). Hooray for multi-tasking: decorations for Spring Semester done, old magazines sorted and recycled, old notebooks reused, and I am feeling accomplished and de-cluttered.
